The Deck
Each player start with a shuffled deck of 55 cards. The deck can either be a starter deck like Fangs of the Tundra or it can be built beforehand by the player. If the player builds their own deck there are some limitations like they can only have 1 Domesday card in their deck, 4 blue star cards and only up to 4 of any other unique cards. Further information can be found in How To Play → Card Types.
Start of Game
At the start of the game each player will draw 10 cards from their deck and roll 2 dice. The player who gets the highest dice roll gets to choose the direction of play. If there is a tie, each player will roll again. You must have a village card in your hand to start. If you do not get a village card, you can show your opponent your hand and then take a mulligan. The player who takes a mulligan shuffles all of their cards into their deck and draws a fresh set of 10 cards. The other player can choose if they want to draw another card from their deck.
Drawing Cards
The first player to start does not pick up a card on their first turn nor can they move troops out of their lands. Every turn after that both of the players will draw a card at the start of their turn. The first player who runs out of cards to draw, during the other player's next turn the other player with cards left in their deck may shuffle their hand back into their remaining deck and then draw as many cards as they shuffled into the deck.
Movement
All troops and heroes without specific abilities can either move between your lands, out of your lands to enemy territory, or back to your lands only once during your turn. You can move as many troops and heroes around as you wish but only 1 troop per land and/or army.
The Attacks
When troops are attached to a hero up to 2 troops in the heroes army can attack during your turn. Heroes can have artifact cards attached to them to give them extra abilities. You can still attack with hero-less troops, but you are limited to only 1 troop attack. When you destroy an enemy troop their hero and/or land they are residing in stays in play until they are destroyed. Heroes and lands without armies are destroyed with an attack that does at least 1 HP damage.
The Lands
Each player can place down a village card and upgrade their previously placed lands during their turn. The player can also place down a troop in each of their lands from their hand during their turn. Troops can then stay in the land to protect it or they can venture out to attack enemies' lands either by themselves or with a hero.
The Abilities
During your turn you can use the instant ability of one of your lands. Also during your opponent's turn if they attack one of your lands, heroes or troops, the specific ability attached gets activated.
How to Win
Each player continues playing until the other player's concede or are completely defeated.
Land
Your lands are where you can spawn troops and heroes. These lands will start off as a village that can be upgraded into city. Lands can be upgraded once per turn if you have the necessary card to play in your hand.
Hero
Normally up to 4 troops can be attached to heroes to make a grouping. The attached troops gain the extra abilities of their hero. You can only have up to 4 hero cards in your deck.
Troop
Troops are used to attack the opposing players troops, heroes and lands. Certain troops (for example Roosters) can either attack or be sacrificed in order to feed another troop.
Artifact
Artifacts can be attached to heroes to give those troops attached to that hero an extra ability. Only 1 artifact card can be attached to a hero. You can only have up to a total of 4 artifact cards in your deck.
Tool
During the players turn, they may use as many tool cards in their hand as they wish. These will give you instant things like healing a troop to drawing cards into your hand.
Heroesguard
These cards are generally the more powerful version of a Tool card. These types of cards can only be used once during a players turn.
Playfield
Playfield cards normally stay in play during the whole game, unless they are taken out of play by another playfield card. These kinds of cards normally give something extra to both players, but they can be more beneficial to one player over the other depending on the players’ deck.
Domesday
These are some of the most powerful cards in the series. Each player can only use 1 domesday card during the entire match, so use it wisely. You can only have 1 of these cards in your deck.
Blue Star
You can only use up to 4 of these cards in your deck. The blue star cards have a blue star in the bottom right hand corner of the card. Blue star cards are normally a powerful tool or heroesguard card.
